emirates post showcases philatelic collection at doha stamp exhibition
1st Arab Stamp Exhibition attracted 15 Arab countries
Emirates Post presented a rich collection of stamps and postal history at the 1st Arab Stamp Exhibition held at Villagio Shopping Mall, Doha, from 30 January to 3 February, 2008. The exhibition was organised by the Qatar Post and Qatar Philatelic Club.
Postal heads and officials from postal administrations from 14 Arab countries attended the exhibition. Emirates Post was represented by Mr. Sultan Abdulla Al Suwaidi, Head of Philatelic Bureau and Omar Mohamed Ahmed, Exhibition Coordinator.
Mr. Ibrahim Bin Karam, CEO of Emirates Post, said: “The exhibition, first such event for Arab postal administrations, was highly significant and represented a major step in boosting inter-Arab cooperation and exchange of philatelic expertise as well as pursuit of excellence in philately.”
Mr. Ali Mohammed Al Ali, Director General of Q-Post, commented, “This historic exhibition marked a new beginning for Arab postal administration to work together to raise philatelic standards. At Qatar Post, we were proud to support this exhibition which will go a long way of cementing ties among Arab postal authorities in the field of philately.”
Two lectures were delivered on Philately by the Mr. Abdulla Khoory, President of Emirates Philatelic Association (EPA) and Mr. Ahmed Hani Al Kilani of Saudi Arabia. The EPA provided logistics support by providing exhibition frames for the show.
EPA participants won a number of laurels for their entries at the exhibition. Mr Mohammed Almurr's collection "Postal History of Muscat 1868-1948" won a Gold medal.
Other participants Thomas Johansen's "Bahrain Postal History - The Indian Period" won Large Vermeil, Omar Mohammed Ahmed's "A Glance on Stamps Used in Dubai" won Vermeil, Jamal Al Barazi's "Chess the Game of Kings" won Large Silver, Faleh Mubarak Al-Malageeth's "Postal History of Das Island", Muhammad Javaid's "Great Britain-Pre Stamp Postmarks (1771-1840), Abdulla Bin Jassim's "Dubai: 1964 1¼ R.J.F Kennedy, A Detailed Study" & Thomas John Nalloor's "Postal Stationery of UAE" each won a Silver medal. The other winners were Nasser Bin Ahmad Alserkal, Ali Abdulrahman, Majed Jaber Ali and Ms. Roda Ali Almulla each won Silver Bronze medal, and Abdulla Majed Jaber won Bronze medal.
EPA current President Mr. Abdulla Khoory was appointed as Jury President, and Board member Mr. Khalid Ali Al-Omaira was appointed as a Jury Member, among other Jurors from the New Zealand, Malaysia and Kuwait.
