ENOC’s Group Environment, Health, Safety and Quality (EHSQ) department, in partnership with EPPCO Distribution, organised a three-day training workshop on handling petroleum tanker rollover incidents for more than 50 officers from UAE Civil Defence and the Dubai Police.

The workshop aimed to educate ENOC’s partners how to work together to minimise consequences in the event of a tanker rollover loaded with petroleum products.

The highlight of the workshop was a live exercise on dealing with a liquid spill from a petrol tanker that has rolled over, wherein participants were taught how to respond safely and efficiently, using emergency response tactics.

Saeed Abdullah Khoory, ENOC Group Chief Executive said: “The EHS Department’s goal is to educate participants on how to deal with major emergencies, such as hazardous petroleum leakages. Environment, health and safety are fundamental in everything that we do and these training sessions are part of our continuous efforts to provide everyone with a safer community”.

“The training workshops aim to equip participants from the Civil defence, Dubai Police, ENOC with emergency response techniques in case of a hazardous liquid spill as well as teach them how they can work together efficiently to control the situation and mitigate the consequences of the incident. This is very important as just within the UAE, there are more than 1,000 delivery trips everyday by the petroleum tankers,” said Eng. Nabeel Ali, Chief Fire and Safety Compliance Officer, ENOC.

Records show that more than 50 truck rollovers took place in the last ten years in the UAE.

Brigadier General Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, Acting Director General of United Arab Emirates Civil Defence, commented on their participation at the training workshop: “We thank ENOC for taking this responsible role and providing these beneficial workshops as they give us a better idea of how we can work together to avoid disaster during a spill. This is the third simulation exercise that we have conducted with ENOC and we look forward to further collaborations in the future. “

Considering its long and intensive knowledge in the fields of environment, health and safety, ENOC is the only energy diversified company in the region that delivers such specialised workshops. Such trainings are part of the company’s corporate social responsibility policy and aims at educating and raising awareness on safety issues amongst its stakeholders. The group has conducted similar workshops in Bahrain for the Bahrain Petroleum Company, Bahrain Civil Defence, and Bahrain Police.
