ALBAWABA -  President Erdogan has shared his perspective on the airstrikes conducted by the United States and the United Kingdom on Houthi targets in Yemen.

Accusing them of disproportionate force, Erdogan criticized the actions, alleging a desire to turn the Red Sea into a bloodbath. He asserted that the Houthis are effectively defending themselves against the military intervention by the US and the UK.

President Erdogan delivered his comments following Friday prayers, expressing concerns about the perceived imbalance in the use of force. Drawing parallels with the situation in Israel and Palestine, he underscored the need to assess Iran's strategies for self-defense. Erdogan also highlighted the consistent collaboration between the US and the UK, emphasizing their current focus on the Red Sea.

According to Erdogan, Yemen is responding adeptly to the military actions of the US and the UK, employing all available resources against them. He emphasized the absence of complacency, referencing reports from various sources indicating the Houthis' successful defense and responses to both nations.

Recent actions by the Houthis, triggered by Israel's attacks on Gaza, prompted several shipping companies to suspend operations in the Red Sea. The Pentagon's discussions on establishing an international "Maritime Task Force" and the announcement of the "Guardian of Prosperity Operation" indicate growing concerns about trade disruptions in the Red Sea.

The Houthis' attacks, coupled with the US and UK airstrikes, have raised concerns about the safety of passage through the Suez Canal—a crucial route accounting for approximately 12% of global trade. The attacks on commercial vessels and decisions to suspend operations intensify worries about a potential new "supply chain crisis" impacting the global economy.
