World Champion golfer Ernie Els joined hundreds of residents at a Victory Heights BBQ earlier this week as part of the development’s commitment to fostering a strong community spirit.
Els has been staying at a luxury six-bed A type Spanish style villa, with perfect views of the 18-hole golf course he designed, at Victory Heights for the past week, while taking part in the inaugural Dubai World Championship between November 19 and 22.
As guest of honour, Els signed autographs for fans who had come to meet him at the event, where residents enjoyed a complimentary BBQ and entertainment including a children’s magic show and interactive family games.
Els said: “I’ve been staying in the villa at Victory Heights for the past few days while playing at the Dubai World Championship, and it’s been the perfect place to relax between rounds. It’s also great to know that there is a strong community spirit here, which ultimately makes Victory Heights an even more enjoyable place to live.”
“It’s been a fantastic evening, and it was great to meet Ernie Els in person after watching him in the media for so many years,” said Abdulla Alkhawaja Jan Hakeem,  one of a Victory Heights  homes owners.
“To have this stunning golf course designed by Els on my doorstep is fabulous. I’m not a golfer, but plan to take it up so I can make full use of this great golfing facility. My family and I are also enjoying the community feel of Victory Heights and the BBQ has been a great way to meet our neighbours,” he added.
Resident, Pierre Moujoum, who was one of the first 15 people to buy a villa in Victory Heights, agreed: “The community BBQ was a very positive experience – it really helped to bring people together, which is so important when you move to a new home, in a new neighbourhood. I hope Victory Heights do many more community events like this.”
The Els Club is the only golf course in the Middle East designed by the three times Major, and seven times World Matchplay title-holder, with over 60 world-wide wins. It combines a links style golf course with traditional 'classical era' design that features gently rolling fairways with steep greenside bunkers and grass swales.
The course has already won three prestigious industry awards: it was awarded ‘Best Golf Course in Dubai’ at September’s 2009 CNBC Arabian Property Awards,  named ‘Best New International Course’ by Links Magazine in January 2008, and selected as a finalist in the ‘International Courses’ category of the 2008 Golf Inc. Development of the Year contest.
The Victory Heights development surrounds the course and many of its villas have stunning views of the greens. The villas in the development are built in three different styles; authentic Spanish Andalusian, bold Mediterranean, and classic European styles.
The Els Club opened for business in January 2008 and already has a solid membership base. Those living in Victory Heights receive value added benefits throughout Dubai Sports City, including The Els Club and Butch Harmon School of Golf.
