The Ethiopian government has asked the authorities in Bahrain to suspend a death sentence imposed on a young Ethiopian housemaid who killed her employer and cut up her body, reports said.
The 20-year-old was found guilty in November of stabbing to death her Filipino employer, who was married to a Bahraini man, cutting up her body, boiling the pieces and keeping the bones in a washing machine.
The Walta Information Center, a press group close to the Ethiopian government, said Tuesday the minister for women, Tadelech Haile Michael, had asked the Bahraini authorities to suspend the sentence and review the affair.
The Ethiopian Women Lawyers' Association (EWLA) on Tuesday also announced it was trying to get the sentence suspended, saying the woman was mentally disturbed and was a minor when the crime was committed.
The EWLA said the young woman had claimed during the trial that she had been subject to physical and psychological abuse and torture -- ADDIS ABABA (AFP)
