Ethiopia has denied that it accepted Israeli loans to fund irrigation and electricity projects on the Nile River.

"There is no cooperation between Ethiopia and Israel in Nile Basin projects," Ethiopian Water Resources Minister Shiferaw Jarso said, quoted by Egypt Online on Saturday.

"Ethiopia can get the money needed for carrying out any project from the World Bank (WB) and friendly donor countries, but not from Israel," he said at a press conference held Saturday at the end of a meeting of Eastern Nile Basin water ministers.

Jarso said that Israel had nothing to do with Ethiopian waters, although it participates in international tenders, announced by his country, for tapwater projects.

The ministers' meeting, held in Cairo, discussed ways to bring about further cooperation among the Eastern Nile Basin countries, which comprise Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, said the online news service - Albawaba.com
