European Union (EU) exports to Iran rose by 31 percent in the first quarter of 2001, led by large increases from three of Iran's biggest trading partners, Germany, Italy and France, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA) on Tuesday.

But while exports increased to 1.4 billion euros, imports from Iran fell from 1.8 billion euros to 1.5 billion euros, cutting the EU's trade deficit to less than 0.1 billion euros, compared with 0.7 billion euros in the first three months of last year.

The increase in exports to Iran was led by Germany, up by 32 percent, said the agency, adding that Italy was the second, followed by France - Albawaba.com
