Jean Burner, a veteran of AFP's European news operations, has been named Agence France-Presse's News Director, replacing Denis Brulet, the international news agency's president, Bertrand Eveno, announced Tuesday.
Burner, 59, will take over in early January from Brulet, who took the job in July 1998.
Burner previously served as AFP bureau chief in Bonn, Brussels and Vienna. He was named deputy editor-in-chief in October.
Eveno said Brulet, former managing director of the English-language AFX News service, an AFP subsidiary, had decided to leave the agency to pursue other opportunities -- PARIS (AFP)
