Exide Enters Middle East Battery Market

The world's leading battery manufacturer Exide has made its entry into the UAE, and has targeted regional sales of Dh23 million ($6.25 million) this year, Gulf News reported Thursday. UAE is Exide's first step towards covering the region, according to executives.  

Ravinder Sokhi, director for marketing and sales, told the paper that the company expects to sell up to 250,000 batteries in the region this year, up by more than 250 percent from last year's 70,000.  

"Saudi Arabia will be our biggest market in the region, alongside the UAE. After our entry to UAE, we are also going to Oman, Syria, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Yemen, besides Tanzania and Nigeria," Sokhi added.  

"The Middle East market was earlier looked after by the international office of Exide Corp, US In order to provide the customer the right product for the right climate and terrain, Exide decided to set up a manufacturing unit in Jebel Ali Free Zone, 51 percent owned by Exide Corp US and 49 percent by Surinder Singh Kandhari,” according to the report – Albawaba.com
