The UAE could save up to Dh500 million every year and minimize harmful atmospheric pollution by exploiting the sun's energy and becoming solar efficient, an environmental energy specialist said, quoted by the Gulf News. Johannes Waimer, director of the Dubai-based Eco-Logic and an electrical engineer and pioneer in the field of solar power, told the paper as saying the cost effective water heating systems which can save consumers up to 95 percent in electricity costs compared to electric boilers, are now available on the UAE market - but a lack of awareness and education were preventing them from being utilized.

Waimer, aged 61, invented a unique solar energy storage unit in 1991 which bypasses the need to convert the sun's radiation into electricity, is currently helping to develop a new solar powered air conditioning system which could cut the UAE's energy consumption rate by 60 percent, said the Gulf News - Albawaba.com
