A global economic slowdown has forced a decline in worldwide demand for PCs, except in the “hungry for technology UAE and the Middle East,” according to an IBM manager.
The growth rate in the UAE for PCs is 28 percent and about 20 percent for the rest of the Middle East market, said Khaled Hassan, regional marketing communications manager, IBM.
The figures are strong compared to a worldwide rate of up to about five percent, he said, cited by the Gulf News.
"PC sales are dropping all over the world, but they are not dropping in the Middle East. They are very healthy here," he added.
"Sales are not growing worldwide but the PC market in the UAE is, because the Middle East is hungry for technology."
Hassan said analysts expected the worldwide slowdown to end by mid-next year.
Last year, IBM sold 85,000 units in the region.
