A bomb explosion in downtown Damascus killed a Syrian brigadier-general on Sunday, AFP has reported.
The blast targeted Brigadier-General Bassem Ali Muhanna's car in the Adawi neighborhood of Damascus, the Syrian Observatory for Human rights said.
The Britain-based monitoring group said "a brigadier general and approximately six people with him were killed in an explosion in the Adawi neighbourhood in the centre of the capital."
The Ahrar al-Sham rebel group posted a video online purporting to show the attack with an improvised explosive device.
Muhanna was a member of the Republican Guards, which is an elite unit of the army, according to a security source.
