A powerful explosion ripped through central Kabul early Tuesday, a week after the Taliban announced the start of their annual spring offensive.
Black smoke could be seen rising from the vicinity of the US embassy in the Afghan capital, Reuters witnesses said, but there was no immediate report of casualties.
Both the US embassy and the NATO military coalition said they were not affected by the blast.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Update: Eye witness reported 6 killed and more than 20 wounded in suicide attack in Kabul.
