Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) honored two of its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) staff who rescued a number of passengers injured in an mini-bus accident on the Doha-Shahaniya highway, while rushing to another critical emergency case.
Dr. Robert Campbell Owen, the Executive Director of EMS praised paramedics Mohsen Al Akkari and Mohamed Ayman on behalf of Dr. Hanan Al Kuwari, the Managing Director of HMC, for the outstanding dedication and devotion they demonstrated while performing their duties. HMC awarded both paramedics an appreciation certificate for their efforts.
Ali Darweesh, the Director of EMS operations and Mohamed Al Khameesi, the Director of north area EMS operations were also present at the occasion which took place at EMS.
The accident occurred on 10th April, while the two EMS paramedics were on their way back to Doha from Shahaniya with victim who was in a critical condition. The mini-bus ahead of their ambulance suddenly gave way and overturned. After ensuring that the patient in their ambulance was safe; Al Akkari and Ayman rushed to save the lives of the injured people caught up in the accident. They contacted the EMS Department for extra support and an EMS chopper and a number of ambulances were duly dispatched and quickly arrived at the scene.
Dr. Robert Campbell Owen, Executive Director, EMS Department said, “As soon as we received a report from our staff about this road traffic accident; I rushed together with the EMS team to the RTA site, where I witnessed the great effort exerted by our two paramedics till the arrival of EMS support. Both Al Akkari and Ayman were injured themselves but still managed to attended to the victims in this horrific accident. Such a noble deed, represents an extremely good example of the role played by our EMS staff in the community. This exceptionally brave act has triggered widespread appreciation from EMS senior management and other associated departments within HMC”.
