Facebook and Instagram users were temporarily prevented from accessing the social networking services on Tuesday, but Facebook said the outage was the result of a problem after a technical change and not the result of hacking, according to media reports

RT reported that the hacking group Lizard Squad had claimed responsibility for an attack on Facebook. Lizard Squad had earlier claimed responsibility for an attack in December against Sony's PlayStation Network and Microsoft's Xbox Live services. Lizard Squad has supposedly aligned itself with Daesh, RT said.

The New York Times said that the company attributed the issue in a statement to "a change that affected our configuration systems. We moved quickly to fix the problem, and both services are back to 100 percent for everyone.’’ Facebook owns Instagram.
