Family Communication Basics for Parents
On the kick-off of ‘Minds of Pleasure’ seminars

Watani, the social development program, concluded the first week of its ‘Mind’s Pleasure’ seminars, held in association with Dubai Summer Surprise (DSS). Two inaugural seminars were presented by Terrence McClendon ‘Happy Parents – Happy Kids’ and Dr Ibrahim Al Khulaifi ‘The five golden rules for smart parenthood’ during the second round of the ‘Mind’s Pleasure’ seminars themed ‘Knowledge Improves Nations’, following last year’s success.

Terrence McClendon, an author, psychologist and an international consultant from Queensland trained thousands of people in Australia and worldwide on communication for over 38 years.

Based on his new book, McClendon presented techniques during his ‘Happy parents-Happy Kids’ seminar on how to apply the best way to communicate with children and get rapport with others. He also showed the audience how to use tone and words to get the best from instructions, help children with nightmares and improve their linguistic skills.

One of the attendees, Abdallah Jasem Al Mansoori praised the speaker for shedding light on behaviours that are adopted unconsciously. “From now on, we will be more careful about our actions to improve the relationship with our children,” he said.

Dr Khulaifi is a professional trainer in Psychology, who has extensive experience in the public and private sectors of Kuwait and is currently the president and general supervisor for “Ideoglobe”. He is the founder of the “International Life School” as well. His seminar was attended by Mr. Ibrahim Al Saleh, Co-ordinator General for DSF Office, and a large number of attendees from various backgrounds.

During his seminar, Dr Khulaifi defined the family and its elements, and listed the benefits of modern and smart parenthood that enable them to cope with the new lifestyle and external influences such as the Internet and friendships that can have a negative impact on younger generation. He also encouraged the audience to guide children and empower them to be able to tackle the fast paced needs of life while keeping their national identity in tact.

A school teacher attending the event said that the seminars added a lot to her knowledge and the guidelines were very valuable and could be implemented easily in her day-to-day life.

The ‘Mind’s Pleasure’ seminars are open to the public every Friday and Saturday at 5:00pm from July 5th to August 23rd at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) auditorium in Deira. For the second consecutive year, world-renowned speakers and trainers will offer life-changing tips on social, economic, medical and spiritual issues to help you improve your life during 16 sessions.

These seminars are part of Watani’s initiatives to encourage the practices of good citizenship among all the segments of the UAE society and creating a volunteering platform for everyone interested in offering time and effort for the benefit of the general public in the UAE. They form one of a wide array of activities that “Watani” has planned for this summer which include cooperation with Princess Haya Cultural & Islamic Centres, summer centres for school children with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), in addition to heritage summer camps
