The two senior Palestinian police officers who were killed in Jericho on Friday by Israeli sharpshooters were attempting to prevent Palestinians youths from firing on Israeli soldiers, sources from Fateh movement were quoted by Haaretz as saying.
The sources denied Israeli allegations that the officers joined the youths who were shooting at the soldiers, said the daily.
According to the source, the officers were trying to fulfill their orders to prevent shooting from Palestinian controlled territories.
The two officers, First Lieutenant Hassid Farwan, 45, and Lieutenant Colonel Haled Slameh, 35, were on patrol near a refugee camp in southern Jericho, Haaretz said.
It added that witnesses at the scene said the two were shot with guns fitted with silencers - Albawaba.com
