An estimated 45 UAE national grooms were married Wednesday at a festive mass wedding. The exciting ceremony was held at the Julphar Wedding Hall and sponsored by Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. This is the fifth mass wedding to take place in the Emirate, according to Gulf News

Jamal Obaid Al Bah, Director General of the UAE Marriage Fund, said that the Fund does not face problems arranging these weddings and added that "But what is worrying, is the problems that arise between couples after marriage." He stressed that Mass weddings, in general, have been a great success story and service to society at large.

With regards to national couples who received marriage assistance and had not got married, he said the number is insignificant, less than one per cent. "Only 20 nationals are guilty – 5,000 couples have got married."

He highlighted that fact that the Fund would take steps against these so that they do not jeopardize the future of the majority who indeed abide by the rules. "Nobody will be allowed to play with this very important social issue, and procedures of the UAE Marriage Fund will remain unchanged."

According to Al Bah, the philosophy behind mass weddings is to control lavish parties and celebrations. They have also played a central role in getting nationals closer to one another and promoting social integration between the people.

Some 300 nationals in Ras Al Khaimah have taken financial assistance from the Marriage Fund. Sheikh Sultan underlined the importance of mass weddings all over the UAE. According to him, they help nationals afford marriage expenses. In due time, couples will give birth to children and this will lead to the prosperity and development of the country.
