The captain and chief steward of a New York-bound EgyptAir flight grappled with each other in front of passengers, resulting in a two-hour delay in the plane's takeoff, press reports said Friday.
The dispute broke out on Thursday after the captain refused the steward's request to bring the airport doctor aboard to treat a woman suffering from piles, according to the story published in major papers.
The captain argued that there was no time for a doctor, punched the steward because he insisted, and crew members had to eventually step in to end the fight, according to AFP. The captain ordered the chief steward off the plane, but a doctor was nevertheless brought in and gave the bleeding passenger a shot that allowed to her to remain aboard the plane.
Meanwhile, EgyptAir chairman Gabdel Fattah Katu has ordered an investigation into the matter, pending which the unnamed captain and steward will not be allowed to work. According to Al-Gomhuriya newspaper, the chief steward has also filed a lawsuit against the captain. (Albawaba.com)
