The First International Nursing and Healthcare Informatics training course in the eastern Mediterranean region will be taking place on May 6-12, 2010 at the Hariri School of Nursing at AUB, under the patronage of Prime Minister Saad Hariri. The opening ceremony will be taking place on Thursday May 6 at 5 pm in the Hicham Jaroudi Auditorium in the school.
The event is organized by the Euro-Mediterranean Medical Informatics and Telemedicine Association (EMMIT), with the Hariri School of Nursing at AUB, the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, the World Health Organization Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, the Ain Wazien Hospital in Lebanon, and others.

Planned as a direct response to the recommendations of the Medical Informatics International conference which was held in Beirut last October, the course is organized by EMMIT, and will fulfill the increasing needs of nurses, educators, and other healthcare personnel in the region regarding healthcare informatics and computer science. The main objective of the course is to increase the awareness of nurses, educators, and other care providers with regard to healthcare information technology (HIT) and to prepare them to work in information technology-enabled health care settings. The course will run in English language and will include theoretical lessons, practical exercises and applications, and interactive discussions. It will be the first in a series of annual courses.
