The desert emirate of Dubai enjoyed Monday its first significant rainfall in 19 months as a powerful storm lashed the northern Gulf coast, the meteorological office said.
Winds gusted at up to 45 knots (85 kph) bringing down advertising hoarding and causing chaos on some roads.
Temperatures plunged from 33 Centigrade (91 Fahrenheit) in the morning to 21C (70F) during the afternoon rain, forecaster M.K.Rao told AFP.
The Met Office registered 5.2 mm of rain at Dubai airport, the first rain to record more than a trace in the city state since March 1999.
Isolated showers are predicted through to Thursday, Rao said – DUBAI (AFP)
