The Farjam Collection has invited Dr. Ronald Hawker, Associate Professor from the Department of Art and Design, Zayed University to lead a guided tour of the Islamic Art exhibition at the upcoming First Wednesdays event on 1July.
“Dr. Hawker is well-versed in art history. We are delighted he will be speaking at The Farjam Collection @ DIFC. Guided tours such as the one he will lead on July 1 are an important part of our mission to increase public awareness about the legacy of Islamic art” said Emilie Faure, Collection and Exhibitions Manager of The Farjam Collection.
Highlights of Islamic Art spans almost the entire history of Islam, bringing together items produced throughout the vast region between Andalusia and Mughal India. It includes Qurans; manuscripts; illustrated books on science, mathematics and poetry; paintings and miniatures; finely-decorated metalwork; lacquer; glasswork; tiles; glazed pottery; woodwork; textiles; coins; jewellery; carpets as well as art from the 13th century AH (19th century AD).
First Wednesdays are held from 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month when an exhibition is on view at The Farjam Collection @ DIFC. Complimentary educational materials in English and Arabic are offered to all visitors. A luncheon is served following the guided tour, courtesy of Florian. The Farjam Collection @ DIFC is open: Sunday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. All exhibitions and programmes are free and open to the public.
