Five Arab foreign ministers will meet early September to discuss the details of establishing a regular Arab summit, Arab League chief Esmat Abdel-Meguid said Tuesday.
The foreign ministers of Egypt, Oman, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen will meet on September 2nd to finalize details such as where and when the summits will be held, Abdel-Meguid told Egypt's state-run MENA news agency.
They will present their report the next day to the League's 114th council meeting, which is expected to adopt the ministers' proposals.
Despite frequent talk about summits, differences between Arab states have meant no summit has taken place since 1996 in Cairo, and even then Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was not invited because of his 1990 invasion of Kuwait.
The League has proposed a yearly summit in March, while Yemen has proposed a November summit - CAIRO (AFP)
