Five Indian army personnel, including an officer, were killed when separatist guerillas attacked a camp in Indian administered Kashmir, a police spokesman said Saturday.
The incident took place late Friday night at Lassipora village, in the border district of Kupwara, 95 kilometers (59 miles) north of Kashmir's summer capital Srinagar.
According to police, the militants fired rockets at a camp housing security personnel of the elite counter-insurgency Rashtriya Rifles, culled out of the Indian army.
After killing the two security personnel manning the gate the militants gunned down an army captain and two soldiers who had come out to challenge them before escaping into dense forest.
Seven soldiers, including an officer, were also injured in the incident.
The Pakistan based Lashkra-e-Taiba militant group has taken responsibility for the attack.
