ALBAWABA - Sanaa International Airport, under the control of Houthi militants, has suspended all flights until further notice, the airport's general director, Khaled alShaief, announced on Wednesday.

The director said the suspension of flights is due to the "severe damage" caused following the Israeli strikes yesterday, May 7.

"As a result of the Zionist (Israeli) aggression on Sanaa International Airport that resulted in severe damage, it has been decided to suspend all flights to and from the airport until further notice," Khaled alShaief revealed in a statement.

The airstrikes came following a warning by the Israeli army calling Yemeni civilians to evacuate Sanaa airport. A statement was made by the army in Israel at 2:36 p.m. local time, in which it warned all citizens at the airport to leave before an upcoming Israeli airstrike there.

The Israeli airstrikes also targeted Sanaa's power station and the Amran cement factory, local media reported.

The attack also came a day after Israel launched a massive attack against the port of Hodeidah.

Tension escalated between the Iranian-backed group and Israel after a Houthi missile that landed near Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport on Sunday, leading to the injury of three Israelis.
