ALBAWABA- A Florida sheriff’s deputy was killed and two others were wounded in a dramatic ambush shooting at a home in Eustis, near Orlando, on Friday night. According to Lake County Sheriff Peyton Grinnell, the deputies were met with a "hail of gunfire" while trying to rescue a fellow officer who had been shot and trapped inside the residence.

The incident began around 8 p.m. when deputies responded to a disturbance report. Upon arriving, they found a door at the home that appeared to have been forcibly kicked in. As they entered, they were immediately confronted with intense gunfire. One deputy was shot and trapped inside, while another retreated to call for backup.

Additional officers and a SWAT team arrived to assist, but were also met with heavy gunfire. The first deputy, who had been trapped, did not survive. The second deputy was injured with a shoulder wound and is in stable condition. The third deputy sustained multiple gunshot wounds and underwent surgery.

Two suspects were killed during the confrontation, and a third suspect was hospitalized. Sheriff Grinnell described the scene as "chaotic from the start until the end," and emphasized the difficulties faced by the responding teams as they worked to rescue their colleague. He noted that there was no prior indication that the home was associated with violent crime.

The sheriff condemned the ambush, stating, "They were ambushed," highlighting the unexpected and dangerous nature of the attack.
