Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said on Saturday Tehran supported a Syrian proposal to rid the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction, and said his country was free of such arms.

"We support Syria's draft to the United Nations to keep the Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction," Kharrazi told reporters at a news conference in Bahrain's capital Manama. "Our policies are against developing or producing such weapons. We believe that the whole Middle East should be free of weapons of mass destruction," Kharrazi said.

Kharrazi was accompanying Iranian President Mohammad Khatami, who arrived in Bahrain on Friday. (Albawaba.com)
