More than 45 percent of Russians believe foreign investment is "a threat to the country," the ROMIR polling institute said in a survey published Thursday.

According to the poll, 17.3 percent of respondents strongly agreed with the statement while another 28.2 percent said they broadly agreed with it.

At the same time the poll, which quizzed 2,000 people in September, showed 67.2 percent of respondents believed Russia was economically weak.

Nevertheless, Russians remain optimistic about the country's future, with 60 percent disagreeing with the statement that Russia will "never become a civilized country and an economically developed state" -- MOSCOW (AFP)
