A bomb killed a former Lebanese intelligence agent and his nephew as they drove along a southern Lebanese highway on Friday, security officials said.
Ramzi Nohra, who had worked as an agent for Lebanese army intelligence, and his nephew, Elie Issa, were killed instantly in an explosion that ripped through their Mercedes on a main road near the southeastern town of Hasbaya.
Hasbaya legislator Qassem Hashem and the security officials blamed the Israeli intelligence service, Mossad, for the killings, AP reported.
Lebanese officials mentioned that Nohra was imprisoned several times in the 1980s and 1990s in Israel for drug trafficking. Nohra was also arrested in Israel for his role in delivering Ahmed Hallaq — a Lebanese agent for Israel — to Lebanese authorities. He was later released.
Hallaq, a 43-year-old Shiite Muslim, was convicted of masterminding a 1994 Beirut car bombing that killed three people. He was executed by firing squad in September 1996.
Among the 1994 bombing's victims was Fuad Mughniyeh, younger brother of Hizbullah leader, Imad Mughniyeh. (Albawaba.com)
