Boxing legend Naseem Hameed visited Amman recently as the VIP guest of Midrar Sports, a leading sports management consultancy. The former world champion visited schools and community leaders during a three-day tour.
“Hosting Naseem Hameed in Jordan was a tremendous honour,” said Midrar’s General Manager Samer Kamal. “His achievements are an inspiring example for athletes in Jordan and around the Arab world. It was a pleasure for the entire team at Midar to organise a memorable first visit to Jordan for one of the Arab world’s most successful sports stars.”
Hameed’s three-day tour saw him visit the International Amman Academy and watch the final of the Jordan Football Cup between Al-Arabi and Wehdat. He also presented medals to the winning boxers in the finals of the Elite League at King Hussein Sports City, which brought together Jordan’s national and Olympic boxing teams
Hameed, a British national of Yemeni descent, held a press conference at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Amman, where he paid tribute to Jordanian boxing, which has produced a number of top-class athletes in recent years. The ‘Prince’ also recognised Midrar Sports for its contribution to the development of sport in Jordan.
Hameed is a former world Featherweight and Bantamweight champion who was famous for both his unorthodox boxing style and spectacular pre-match antics, which included arriving in the ring by a specially constructed elevator and even on a flying carpet. Hameed’s first professional bout was in 1992. His last fight in 2002 saw him win the IBO Featherweight title.
Midrar Sports is a leading sports management company based in Jordan. The company’s activities include sports marketing, sponsorship, events and talent management.
