At least four prisoners were killed and dozens injured Sunday as police opened fire on a mutiny by hundreds of inmates at a jail in north west Pakistan, officials said.
Prisoners had set fire to several barracks inside the Central Jail in Peshawar. The prison's carpet weaving factory and a warehouse were also set ablaze, they said.
Violent clashes lasted several hours as hand to hand fighting broke out when guards carried out a routine search for arms and drugs, sources and officials said -- PESHAWAR (AFP)
