Four Iraqis died on Saturday morning when a roadside bomb went off near a bus travelling through the eastern edge of the city, reported police.  According to AFP, the explosion also wounded two others in the bus.

A body was also found bearing marks of torture near a Sunni mosque in Saidiyah neighborhood in the southern part of the city.

Late on Friday, six other bodies were found in Latifiya, just south of Baghdad. The men were in their 30s, their hands were bound and they all showed signs of torture.

Elsewhere, two U.S. troops died in combat in Anbar province, the American military reported Friday. The statement said the soldiers were killed Thursday.

Meanwhile, Iraq's president issued a very optimistic report Friday on progress among politicians trying to shape a new unity government. According to the AP, President Jalal Talabani said the government could be in place for parliamentary approval by the end of the current month, though he acknowledged "I am usually a very optimistic person."

A less optimistic Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari has said a Cabinet list could be ready by the end of next month.
