ALBAWABA- Four people were shot and killed early this morning on a CTA Blue Line train at the Forest Park station outside Chicago, according to police. 

The incident occurred around 5:27 a.m., with three victims found dead at the scene. A fourth victim was transported to Loyola University Medical Center but later succumbed to their injuries.

The suspect initially fled the scene but was apprehended on a Pink Line train in Chicago. Authorities have recovered a gun and are currently investigating the incident with the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force. 

In recent days, the United States has witnessed a troubling surge in gun violence.

In Philadelphia, five people were injured in a drive-by shooting, while in Jacksonville, Florida, a gunman fatally shot three individuals at a Dollar General store in what authorities are investigating as a hate crime.
