Four people have been killed and three others injured in continuing violence in Algeria linked to Islamic rebels, press reports said Wednesday.
One civil guard was killed and three soldiers were wounded in an ambush Tuesday by armed Islamic fundamentalists in El-Aouna, near Jijel, some 300 kilometers east of the capital.
The same day, a civilian was murdered by an armed Islamic group in Seghouane, in the Medea region, some 70 kilometers south of the capital, the daily newspaper Sawt El-Ahrar reported.
On Monday night, soldiers killed two armed Islamists in Sidi Boubekeur, near Saida, some 430 kilometers west of Algiers, newspapers said.
The latest violence brings to 38 the number of people who have died since the beginning of the month, according to a press tally.
Sixteen of the victims were armed Islamists, the papers said - ALGIERS (AFP)
