The UAE and France have agreed to resume an old deal to sell French tanks to Abu Dhabi, said Middle East Newsline (MENL).
The agreement appears to clear the way for additional arms sales by France to the UAE, according MENL.
Officials were quoted by MENL as saying that “the tank project will be resumed soon.”
The UAE had refused to accept delivery of French Leclerc main battle tanks. The two countries signed a contract in 1993 for the supply of 436 tanks to Abu Dhabi in a $3.4 billion sale.
Abu Dhabi had refused to accept the remaining 100 tanks, it said, noting that UAE defense officials have asserted that the tanks are faulty and do not work well in desert conditions – Albawaba.com
