Scotland's Dario Franchitti grabbed the provisional pole for the second week in a row Friday, posting the fastest lap of time trials for the Championship Auto Racing Teams Toronto Indy race.

Franchitti went 107.272 mph over the 1.755-mile temporary street course in a Honda-powered Reynard, edging defending CART champion Juan Montoya of Colombia by two hundredths of a second.

Time trials will continue Saturday to decide the pole sitter for Sunday's race, the 10th of 20 in the series.

Franchitti led the first qualifying round in Cleveland two weeks ago, but he lost the pole to Brazil's Roberto Moreno, who went on to win the race and grab the series points lead.

Last year, Franchitti led all 95 laps en route to the victory here. But he is seeking his first pole since last year at Australia - (AFP)
