ALBAWABA - In a statement released earlier today, the French military said that its troops shot down two Houthi drones that were heading toward the French frigate in the Red Sea from the coast of Yemen.

French Military general staff said in a press release that the interception and destruction of these two identified threats were carried out late Saturday by the frigate Languedoc, which operates in the Red Sea.

The interceptions happened at 2030 GMT and 2230 GMT, the statement added, and were 110 km (68 miles) from the Yemeni coast.

This incident comes following the Houthi threat of targeting any vessels heading to Israeli ports unless food and medicine were allowed into the besieged Gaza Strip.

In a statement posted on social media, the Houthis said they "will prevent the passage of ships heading to the Zionist entity" if humanitarian aid is not allowed into Gaza.

An American warship shot down three drones last week while providing assistance to commercial ships in the Red Sea targeted by attacks from Yemen, according to Washington, which denounced "a direct threat" to maritime security.

Later in November, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a statement that a US warship patrolling the Red Sea intercepted multiple attack drones launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen on Thursday.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, CENTCOM said: "USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116) shot down multiple one-way attack drones launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. The drones were shot down while the U.S. warship was on patrol in the Red Sea. The ship and crew sustained no damage or injury".

Hamas operation against Israel

Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.

Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.

In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

As of the latest statistics by the media office in Gaza, has risen to  17,487. The office put the number of injuries at more than 46,480, saying that the majority of them are children and women.
