French President Jacques Chirac is due to hold talks on Wednesday with Palestinian Parliament Speaker, Ahmed Qorei.

The two are expected to primarily discuss the upcoming events that will affect the prospects for peace between the Israelis and Palestinians, official sources said, cited by the Kuwait news agency Monday.

Qorei is currently on a visit to France that is to last several days and is also scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin and with the Speaker of the French national Assembly, Jean-Louis Debre.

With President Chirac, the talks are set to focus on the Middle East situation "marked by ongoing violence," official sources said, adding that the meeting at the Elysee palace will also take place only days ahead of the next scheduled meeting of the Quartet, which it is hoped will put forward a 'road map' for peace, the agency added.
