Suspected Islamic extremists killed five people and seriously injured three others in two separate incidents in Algeria, an official said Sunday.
Two people were killed and three seriously wounded by armed Islamists late Saturday at a false roadblock in the Batna region, 430 kilometers east of the capital.
The five were gunned down on a mountain road in a heavily-forested region between Tazoult and Theniet El Abed, the official said.
Three brothers were also killed in the Annaba region, some 600 kilometers to the east of Algiers, an official said. He said the brothers, aged 26, 28 and 40, were stabbed to death as they returned home at about midnight on Saturday. (Albawaba.com)
