An Indian soldier with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFEL) died on Monday after being shot during target practice in the south, said a spokesman.

“He was hit during range practice and badly wounded, and died while being taken for medical attention,” a UNIFEL spokesman said, quoted by the official Saudi press agency (SPA).

The soldier is the second of a several hundred-strong Indian contingent to be killed on duty in Lebanon.

He is the 238th UNIFEL member killed since it was deployed in 1978, when Israel began an occupation of south Lebanon that lasted till May of last year, SPA said - Albawaba.com
