Fun Competition Expected at Eighth Annual Qtel Club Ramadan Indoor Tournament

Evening Competition Open to the Public during the Holy Month of Ramadan
Qtel’s Eighth Annual Football Tournament will bring a series of exciting matches to Qatar this year during the Holy Month of Ramadan, it was announced.

The exciting competition, which has run every year for eight years, sees employees from across the Qtel Group of Companies take part in a range of highly competitive matches, representing different units, divisions and departments within Qtel.

The matches, which take place in the evening, draw enthusiastic crowds of spectators every year, with 2009 expecting to bring the largest crowds in the event’s history. Organised by the Qtel Club, it is a highly-professional and entertaining tournament.

Waleed Al-Sayed, Chairman, Qtel Club, Chairman Qtel Tournament Organising Committee and Executive Director, Customer Services, Qtel, said: “Players have been training for months to take part in this year’s event, wanting to do their best for their friends and colleagues. Our aim is to provide an important occasion for the people of Qtel to come together and also to put on an entertaining display for the fans and supporters who watch the evening matches.” 

The tournament kicks off on Monday, August 24th at 9.30 pm, at the Al Sadd Indoor Club, and highly-competitive matches are expected.

In the 2008 edition, the Board of Directors’ team triumphed after a series of strong victories, reaching the final against the General Service division.

This year, a number of other teams are optimistic of their chances, with Qtel continuing to attract many bright and enthusiastic sportspeople in the company.

“The Qtel Club Ramadan Tournament reflects much of what is best about Qtel, providing an interesting spectacle for the people of Qatar, as well as demonstrating the commitment of our people,” said Al Sayed.


Participating teams this year include the Board of Directors’ team; General Service Team; Contact Center Team; Public Relations Team; Network Team; Consumer Service Team; Business Solution Team; Qtel Branches Team; Qtel International Team; Group Strategy Team; IT  Team; and the Security Team.

Matches will run through to the Grand Final on 9th September, with a major trophy awarded to the winning team, as well as individual prizes for the best player, goal-keeper, and scorer.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the matches.
