Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) resumes implementing concrete works and main structures of the two bridges within Shmeisani intersection project with a total cost that reached to JOD 20 million.

City Deputy Manager for Public Works, Eng. Fawzi Mas’ad, said: “the completion percentage of the project amounts to 48%”, pointing out that the current works represent the semi-final stage for the project, as it includes some amendments to complete the whole task within the scheduled time.

This existing phase includes removing the old bridge to build the new two bridges, the first bridge is located in Suleiman AL Nabulsi Street with two lanes for each direction and it is 300 m long.

While the second extends from the 4th Circle to Jamal Abdul Nasser Junction (Ministry of Interiors), through Queen Nour Street with 420 m long and two lanes for each direction; it branches off in two bridges, one of them is 200 m long and leads to Abdali development project, the other, is also 200 m long, parallel to the main bridge (leading to Ministry of Interiors junction) and ends at Jerusalem College entrance.

Engineer Mas’ad expected to have the project completed by the end of the current year, coinciding with the completion of Prince Hussein Ibn Abdullah II Square on the Airport Road, and the main roads network of Abdoun Corridor Project.

He further pointed out that the project will include installing a small bridge to serve the traffic flow from the 4th Circle and the project’s circle toward Suleiman Al Nabulsi Street. Implementation of a turn to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce junction to enable the external traffic movement from Al Abdali to the 4th Circle is also in progress; this way the vehicles flow can turn to Queen Nour Street before the bridge of Ministry of Industry and Commerce junction.

It is also planned to execute a rain water drainage network for the project area, lighting works for the tunnels, the bridges and the circle, in addition to renovation works for the remaining part of the old tunnel, and several decoration and complementary additions to the whole project.

It is worth noting that the project is the biggest of its kind, and has four levels, a tunnel, circle, and two bridges (one above the other); it will eventually contribute to solving the traffic jams in the area, and will contain the jam resulting from the architectural developments witnessed in Al Abdali area.
