Presided by Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, and in the presence of the Council members, Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Council held an extraordinary meeting on Monday 5/4/2010.
The meeting addressed the falling down incident of the building in Wadi El Seer, including the contradictory news raised by the media about the heartbreaking accident, starting from the architectural blue prints of the technical agencies, the submission to GAM, the execution process by the engineering office, up until the collapse occurred, and filing the case to the judiciary to commence the investigation which included five members of GAM council, in addition to eleven engineers and employees of GAM, who were accused of being responsible for the falling down.
Stemming from GAM Council’s keenness to clarify the facts before the public, the Council confirms the following:
First: GAM Council and its Chairman express their respect for the Jordanian judiciary which is renowned for its integrity and independence, stressing the keenness to serve the nation and the public interest that guides GAM in performing its duties and servicing Amman residents to ensure their safety and guarantee their right of a safe, decent life.
Second: the Council members, who are charged to serve in the ranks of local committees, or any other committees, are authorized from the Council and represent it as a body corporate.
Third: the Council absolutely affirms that it is not responsible for the tragic accident, as clarified in the reports presented by the committees which are formed to inspect the building and detect the reasons of the collapse.
Forth: GAM looks forward to constructive cooperation with all the concerned authorities regarding applying the national building code to serve the public safety.
Concluding the session, GAM Council reconfirmed its confidence in the Jordanian judiciary, the only authority that can reveal the truth and determine the obligations and duties of all pertinent sides.
