Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) recently held an open environmental day in King of Bahrain Forest (Ghamadan Park) in celebration of the Independence Day.
Deputy Mayor of Amman, Eng. 'Amer Al-Basheer, said, "the environmental day is a station to reinforce GAM efforts to maintain the environment, and encourage citizens to visit parks and gardens regularly and to participate (in the environmental day), and take responsibility towards keeping them clean and beautiful.
The activities that were launched recently under the supervision of Sports and Entertainment Department and Studies and Environmental Planning Department included general cleaning chores, premises painting, trees planting, distributing garbage bags, and educational brochures to the visitors.
The environmental day, in which volunteers from International Relief and Development (IRD), "The Right to Play" corporation, and a number of school students, aims at changing the negative attitude towards entertaining which should help raise the environmental awareness standard, orienting the park-goers and students of the importance of the tourist sites, and deep rooting the awareness and environmental activities to lay the foundation for domestic tourism that is healthy and attractive.
The environmental day included artistic performances, and educational sketches presented by the participating students; and concluding the event, Eng. Al-Basheer handed over the incentive prizes to the participants.
