Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) signed recently an agreement with Mawaqef Company for Investment and Al Marafeq Construction & Operation Company, that aims to implement automatic parking lots in Swefieh area opposite to AL Wakalat Street on a piece of land with a space area of two dunnums owned by GAM.
The project will be executed according to the BOT system and upon the highest standards adopted on the world level and within the modern mechanization in the way of parking and receiving the vehicle to eliminate the traffic jam by providing parking lots that reduce random parking on the sides of the street, a habit that hinders the road traffic flow.
Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, said that the idea of implementing automatic parking in the middle of the commercial zone in Swefieh is resumption for the series of the parking projects adopted by GAM to develop the city and maintain its urban features and distinctive services rendered to the citizens.
The Mayor added that GAM has a successful experience with the private sector to realize Park Plaza project, which was opened during the last midyear in Swefieh, since these parking lots had a positive impact on the traffic flow and on the convenience of the citizens living in that active commercial area.
The parking lots depend on an automatic system with a level on each lot’s door to move the vehicles to the upper 7 floors with a capacity of 260 parking lots. An autobus will stop by frequently to carry the citizens to and from the parking lots.
The company will fund, construct, invest, and manage the project for 30 years after which the ownership of the whole property (Parking) returns to GAM, the agreement allows to GAM direct supervision on all the execution phases of the project.
The Mayor, Omar Maani signed the agreement on behalf of GAM and the Board Chairman of Marafeq Construction & Operation Co., Nabeel Sarraf, and Board Chairman of Mawaqef Co. for Investment, Ahmad Al Jundi.
GAM and Al Marafeq Co. had opened during the mid of last year, Park Plaza in Swefieh, which included 750 parking lots, a trade center, and offices with a space area of 5050 m2. The company funded, constructed, invested, and managed the project for 25 years, to be after this period a property of GAM.
