Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, and Minister of Education, Dr. Ibrahim Badran, recently signed a partnership and cooperation agreement to activate schools' yards and playgrounds after working hours and during the holidays.
Dr. Badran said that such an agreement goes in line with the Ministry's objective to make schools an effective place and open platform for all youth and society activities, giving them the chance to express their abilities by opening the different schools' facilities at all times and not limiting the schools' role to teaching only.
The mayor stressed the keenness of Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) on supporting youth and sports in Amman, and declared that GAM will rehabilitate 27 yards and playgrounds in schools, that will be selected from different regions of Amman, including the schools within "Madrasati" (My School) initiative; these schools will be used after the office hours to hold sports activities and competitions of different ages at the respective neighborhoods.
Badran clarified that the agreement shall activate scholar sports and create a healthy and physically aware generation; he also expressed his hope that this idea be publicized to include all provinces in cooperation with the municipalities.
According to the agreement, using the playgrounds after the office hours shall take effect from 3:00pm to 9:00pm and from 9:00am to 10:00pm during holidays and official vacations.
GAM will hold free sport training courses for students of the selected schools under the supervision of experienced trainers after the office hours, in addition to health and sport awareness programs for the students and the local community.
GAM undertakes supplying the playgrounds with all necessary tools and sport equipment, as well as maintenance services to the playgrounds and the schools properties.
The City Council members Lina Al Tel, and Ziad Awamleh, City Deputy Manager for Cultural, Social, and Sports Affairs, Eng. Haitham Jweinat, some senior officials of GAM and Ministry of Education, and representatives from "Madrasati"
initiative and the Royal Society for Health Awareness attended the signing ceremony of the agreement.
