Champions eye high stakes in tri-nation gaming tournament

The LG Windows Gaming Championship is set for a major showdown as the GCC prepares for the third and final leg of the tri-nation championship next weekend.

After the overwhelming success of the first two rounds in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, the final leg will be held for UAE gaming enthusiasts and will see bigger participation in the Emirates. The UAE round will be held in Dubai’s Ibn Battuta Mall at the Egypt Court on June 22 and 23 and organisers expect a large turnout of some of the veteran gamers from the region.

This is the second Windows Gaming Championship ever to be held in the Middle East and has already broken the records in terms of participation from that of last year. With more than 200 participants from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia vying for the top honours, the gaming community has truly emerged in full force to celebrate the occasion. Next week’s UAE round will be followed by the regional finals which will feature the winners from the Saudi and Kuwait rounds.

Mr. C. H. Lee, President of LG Electronics Gulf FZE, said that the spectacular response to the championship was testimony to the ongoing keen contest between the top gamers in the region.

“The Windows Gaming Championship has reached new heights of excellence this year. Taking the competition to a regional level has increased the awareness and enthusiasm for gaming. We are anxiously awaiting the results of the UAE championship and the regional finals,” he added.

Winners of the previous two competitions include Mohammed Al Jaber from Saudi Arabia and Abdullah Al Mashaan from Kuwait who fought off stiff competition and claimed the individual prizes. Gameworks Clan from Kuwait and ec from Saudi Arabia beat out nearly 25 teams between them to achieve the team prizes.

Ibn Battuta Mall in Dubai will also be the venue for the regional “Final of Finals” among winners, who will be contending for the grand prize of US$6000 as well as the prestigious title of the “Best PC Gamer in the Gulf”. Contestants can choose to enter the ‘three to five-member team’ category playing the ever-popular Counterstrike Source, or as an individual to play the Pro Evolution Soccer 6.  Keen gamers can also register for both games.

To participate, contestants can log on to www.itp.net/wgc and register. Entry is free and open to all.
