Chairman of the International Gaza Film Festival, Rasheed Mash’harawi, has emphasized that this year’s event will highlight the talent of Palestinian and Arab artists who came to express their views on the current political status of the region.
Speaking to ‘Al Bayan’ newspaper, Mash’harawi stated that the festival aims at participating in establishing a Palestinian state, with the capital of Jerusalem, on Palestinian land, through cultural and artistic institutions.
Meanwhile, he also clarified that the idea behind the festival came about in order to present an opportunity to Arab and Palestinian artists for meetings, talks and constructive criticizm.
“The Festival aims at providing Palestinian and Arab artists with a yearly organized opportunity to join theater, film and other forms of art in one place,” said Mash’harawi.
He emphasized the importance of cultural blending between Palestinians, Arabs and Foreigners, in order to exchange experiences and participate in filming in Palestine. Furthermore, the festival would present the youth with a great opportunity to be noticed.
The chairman also saw that such an international blending of talent would ultimately result in the cultural refinement of the Palestinian people.
Mash’harawi stated that the festival will include many venues, including one entitled ‘Filistine Fi Eyoun El Akhareen,’ (Palestine Through Others’ Eyes), comprising of a movie about Palestine by non-Palestinian actors, movies on Palestinian refugees and movies presented by Palestinian film students – Albawaba.com.
