The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) advisory authority met in Riyadh Sunday to discuss several issues of mutual concern, Kuwait’s official news agency (KUNA) reported.

GCC assistant secretary general for economic affairs Ajlan Al Kawwari underlined “the major achievements of the 30-member authority, including the economic pact and the establishment of the custom union.”

Al Kawwari also noted the reduction of the custom tariffs and the establishment of the common gulf currency by the year 2010.

The authority members will discuss the development of education, energy, environment, water strategy, scientific and technological research.

The authority, which was established in 1998, groups five members from each of the GCC states; Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – Albawaba.com
