GCC, EU Hold Talks Monday in Manama for ‘Closer Economic Ties’

Foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and a delegation from the European Union (EU) will meet Monday in Manama at the EU-GCC 11th council and ministerial meeting, aimed at forging closer economic and trade ties between the two regions, reported the Gulf Daily. 

The EU team will be led by Swedish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Lena Hjelm Wallem and will also include British Foreign Office Minister Brian Wilson, said an official source. 

The 18-member EU delegation will also include European Commission (EC) Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy, besides high-ranking officials from Germany, France, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Austria, Luxembourg and Greece. 

The meeting will discuss cooperation between the two sides in trade and economy fields as well as IT, said the paper. 

The last meeting was held last year in Riyadh during which both sides discussed a draft trade agreement.
